British Holiday Home Owners Suffer Car Insurance Blow on Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca in Spain.

BRITISH holiday home owners on Spain’s Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca have suffered a car insurance blow over possible refunds.

UK property owners in Spain, who split their time between the two countries, have been phoning their Spanish insurance brokers to see if they can get credits for being unable to use their cars because of isolation rules.

The calls have been made to many companies like Costa Blanca-based Jennifer Cunningham Insurances SL.

They have received a variety of queries over car insurance from Brits who spend just a few months a year in Spain, but have a car at their holiday property.

The thrust of the query is that since they cannot get over to Spain due to the lockdown restrictions, they therefore cannot use their vehicle, and so might be entitled to a reduction or suspension of their car insurance payment.

“There are no such discounts available,” said a staff member at the Jennifer Cunningham office in Benijofar.

“Irrespective of the circumstances, the full rate has to be paid.”

There are no changes to car insurance payments, or any other insurance premiums for that matter in Spain, despite the State of Alarm rules.

That may seem especially harsh to some households in Spain who have more than one car and are looking to claw back some much-needed money due to the lockdown.

Spain’s big insurance companies are expected to see a big drop in projected profits this year due to the coronavirus crisis, but have been told to continue to issue new policies across the full range of services.
