VELEZ-MALAGA Local Police officers called to an accident in the early hours, found an agitated victim rejecting paramedics’ help.
Instead, after refusing to give his personal details, he ran to the police patrol car where the engine was still running.
He jumped into the driver’s seat and was removed only after a struggle in which one of the police officers was injured and needed attention at the Torre del Mar health centre.
The police found that a Malaga court had disqualified the Spanish 26-year-old from driving until June this year and when taken to Axarquia hospital he tested positive for drugs.  He was also carrying 50 grammes of cannabis and €2,160 in cash.
He now faces charges of attempted car theft as well as road safety and drugs’ offences.
