Nadal, Gasol & Banderas Join the Royal Family to Create a Plan to Revitalise Spain’s Tarnished Reputation After the Coronavirus Crisis

Athletes, like Rafa Nadal, Pau Gasol and Fernando Alonso, Actors and Filmmakers like Antonio Banderas and Isabel Coixet, as well as Scientists like Valentin Fuster and influential businessmen have all joined forces to endorse the King’s collective plan of action to overcome the reputational crisis caused by Covid-19 and to regain confidence in Spain.

THIS initiative was revealed by Felipe VI and Doña Letizia over a videoconference with the head of the Leading Brands of Spain Forum (FMRE) which groups 140 companies with leading brands that account for roughly 35 per cent of Spanish GDP) and with prominent honorary ambassadors of the Marca sports brand to analyse the consequences of the pandemic and how they can combat them together.

A spokesperson for the royal family has confirmed that they all shared the same vision as the King and they agreed that they have all been impacted abroad in some way due to the high number of deaths reported, the dissemination of images in some hospitals, allusions to the lack of material and statistics of infected health professionals.

These are all issues that they assume can weaken Spain’s image and cause a loss of influence abroad, for which reason they have opted to join efforts and promote a collective action plan to combat it.

Given this, the FMRE and the honorary ambassadors have endorsed a proposal with five essential points which companies believe must be promoted to the fullest.

The first of these is a public-private collaboration to combat the effects of the crisis and contribute to the recovery of economic activity, and the second is that leading companies must play a primary role in reactivating the business fabric of the nation and promote the country’s image.

The plan does not only aim to regain confidence in Spain as a commercial partner but as a destination for tourism and investment.

The honorary ambassadors of Spain in the field of sports (Nadal, Gasol and Alonso) have also explained to the King and Queen various initiatives that they have promoted to help alleviate the crisis.
