THE coronavirus crisis has left the dig on the Mojacar ‘La Vieja’ site without archaeologists this summer.
The council reported that what would have been the third excavation campaign on the site of the old Mojacar settlement has been cancelled.
“The current situation prevents us from carrying out this activity this year,” the local authority said.
Nearly 100 volunteers from around the world had been expected to spend July working on the dig to unearth more about the history of the settlement and everyday life 900 or so years ago.
