Estimated speed of UK Covid-19 cases increases in a week

The estimated speed of UK Covid-19 cases has increased in a week.

The pandemic ‘R’ number has risen slightly over the last week, according to the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).

Scientists which advise the government have confirmed the UK reproduction number for the killer bug is now between 0.7 and one, up from 0.5 to 0.9 last week.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said this is based on data from a couple of weeks ago and while it is a vital figure for policymakers, it is one data point to consider along with the level of new cases.
