Business owners in La Cala desperate to entice customers back into their premises for the first time in over two months faced yet another problem this morning – No Water!

La Cala de Mijas business owners couldn’t believe their luck today as they opened up their premises after almost 70 days of closure only to find they have no water.

As previously reported by the EWN, Acosal, the water supplier, issued a bulletin to warn everyone in Mijas that supplies will be disrupted this week due to urgent repairs needing to be carried out on the main feeder pipe.

The repair was supposed to be carried out last week but bad weather prevented it from happening.

La Cala de Mijas at 11.00am today – a virtual ghost town.

A local bar expat bar said: “I can’t believe it, crazy! We are desperate to get punters in and then this, how do they expect us to survive – I can well see loads of people going out of business altogether. I didn’t see the bulletin, only the one last week so it was a complete surprise.”

With the repairs expected to take at least four to five days, it remains to be seen if local businesses will able to stay open at all.
