THE expat bar owner was ordered to close by police on Sunday after which he alleges he was punched three times by a Local Policeman.

Tu Jardin is a very popular and busy bar in Av Torreblanca, Fuengirola, on Spain’s Costa del Sol and is frequented by expats and Spanish locals alike.

After more than two months of lockdown, the English owner, Jay, and his wife decided to go in and start the clean up for today’s ‘Grand Opening.’ However, things didn’t quite work out as planned when at around 3pm in the afternoon a police van suddenly pulled up outside…

Jay explained to me that he, his wife and staff were just cleaning up and disinfecting the bar when a van full of around 12 policemen stormed in and told everyone to stop what they were doing and to get outside.

This is when Jay alleges that one of the policemen punched him three times in the chest and his wife got man-handled out of the bar, he also mentioned that before the police left they also issued fines to everyone. I asked Jay if he had made a denuncia against the officer but he replied it’s not worth it and nothing would happen anyway – a truly sad situation to find anyone in.

I could tell that Jay was having difficulty speaking to me and he said that he hadn’t really slept last night with the pain and also the worry over what had happened. Finally, Jay said to let everyone know he is ok and will soldier on and that the bar is open to old and new customers now, and that in the near future all the entertainment will be resumed.
