ENGLISH Premier League clubs have agreed to stage one of the ‘return to training protocols’ which would allow teams to start training in small groups from this week, in a mirror of what is happening in Spain’s La Liga.
All Spanish league clubs can begin group training sessions this week despite stricter lockdown restrictions remaining in place in parts of the country because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Premier League decision was taken at a league shareholders’ meeting and could see clubs doing group-based training later in the week, so long as nobody tests positive for Covid-19.
La Liga told clubs today (May 18) that all players can start small group sessions regardless of the lockdown phase in their regions.
Players had only been allowed to train individually across Spain until now.
The EPL and La Liga are both eyeing up June 12 as a possible return date for their fixtures, which would be played behind closed doors.
