ANA SALA: Calpe’s mayor maintained that town should be in Phase Two, credit: Cadena Ser
CALPE mayor Ana Sala has criticised the Generalitat’s decision not to proceed to Phase Two of the de-escalation programme. Speaking to the Spanish media, Sala described the regional government’s decision as an “error” that was discriminatory and harmful to businesses. Marina Salud Hospital, which covers the Marina Alta healthcare area, had assured her that they were prepared to return to normal and could attend to usual doctors’ appointments, Sala said. “We deserve to enter Phase Two because all of the Marina Alta is at the very back of the queue of coronavirus infections and deaths,” the mayor argued. “Health comes first, and we are going to be patient and prudent, but I shan’t stop defending my position because business-owners are suffering a lot,” she declared. “For all the help they may be getting, this does not offset the daily sales that really pay the bills.”
