TWO Chinese tourists identified as the first cases of coronavirus in Italy have donated $40,000 to Rome’s Spallanzani hospital where they were hospitalised in January.
The couple from Wuhan spent 49 days in the Spallanzani hospital, a specialist centre for infectious diseases, after falling ill on January 30 while on holiday in Rome.
The Chinese husband and wife, aged 66 and 65 respectively, were discharged mid-March. Following their return to Wuhan, the couple wanted to thank the Roman hospital with a donation of $40,000 as a sign of gratitude for the “care and attention” they received from the medical staff there. The donation will go towards Covid-19 research.
Health councillor for the Lazio Region Alessio D’Amato called their donation “an act of great generosity and gratitude.”
