A 30-year-old man from San Antonio, Texas in the US, has died of coronavirus after attending a disturbing new type of event known as a “Covid-party”.
According to Dr. Jane Appleby, speaking to San Antonio’s News4, the parties are organized by someone who has tested positive with Covid-19 and the idea is to “test if the virus is real by seeing how many people end up infected”.
For some partygoers, the aim is to actually get the virus in order to create antibodies, believing, incorrectly, that coronavirus is only deadly to older generations.
The doctor went on the say that the patient before he died admitted that he had “made a mistake”, and that he “thought it was all a hoax”.
Dangerous Covid parties have also been reported by authorities and health officials in Alabama, where in some cases, the first party guest to become infected with coronavirus receives a payout.
“The virus does not discriminate and nobody is invincible,” said Dr. Appleby. Not wanting to be an alarmist, she stated that she just wanted to share some examples to prove that the “virus is serious and easily transmitted”.
