DOCTORS in Italy are finding that health issues arising from the novel coronavirus are likely to be much more long-term than previously thought.
Medical staff in the city of Bergamo, in the worst-hit region in Italy by Covid-19, are warning that the health repercussions from the virus have been underestimated.
The Bergamo area is seeing a rise in patients presenting with spinal infections, kidney infections, strokes, and mobility issues potentially resulting from inflammation throughout the body caused by Covid-19.
Survivors of the coronavirus now appear to be suffering these other acute illnesses and complications for months after recovering from the virus.
Italian doctors are warning the virus is a systemic infection that can result in chronic conditions and health complications for life.
