The heavyweight world champions ran into each other in Spain as they enjoyed some downtime before their respective title defences later this year.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua both vowed to keep alive their dream of becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion during their chance meeting in Marbella. The champs rivals ran into each other in Marbella Spain over the weekend as they enjoyed some downtime ahead of their respective training camps.

Joshua from Watford and Manchester-born Fury both currently hold the world heavyweight belts. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn explained what the pair chatted about in the chance meeting. “It was amazing, people think it was a set-up,” he said.

“AJ said he was walking down the road and Fury drove up and opened the window and was like, ‘Alright?’

“I think he said to AJ, ‘Make sure you beat Kubrat Pulev’. And AJ said, ‘Make sure you beat Deontay Wilder’. “And they both said, ‘I will, and I’ll see you next year’.”

The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc with the boxing schedule and means Fury is likely to have to also fight Dillian Whyte before he can take on Joshua. Whyte has been waiting for more than three years for his shot at the WBC title and must take on the champion by February.
