European Investment Bank Pumps Money into Barcelona to Fight Pollution

Smog over Barcelona Credit: Barcelona Council

SPAIN is receiving a great deal of funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the latest announcement shows that it will provide €95 million for a number of urban regeneration projects in Barcelona.

A significant percentage of this investment will be to create a new concept of housing where the majority of vehicle traffic is only allowed around the perimeter of the neighbourhood with priority given to pedestrian and where cars are allowed, speeds will be carefully controlled.

Earlier this year, the City acknowledged it had a climate emergency and this investment may help to turn the tide in the long run.
