LAST week we told you of a young man from Periana whose dream it was to climb a mountain.
Well, that dream came true as 12-year-old Álvaro Moreno, accompanied by his parents, Club Perianda and other mountain-climbing fans, climbed to the summit of La Maroma, on Sunday, September 20, with the aid of a very special chair.
Club Perianda together with Club Running Playas de Torre del Mar organised this mountaineering ascent to the highest peak in the province of Malaga, which totals 2,066 metres. Álvaro accomplished this with the use of a Joëlette type unicycle saddle attached to an adapted chair which was able to be driven on flat terrain or on rocky terrain with the aid of two helpers.
The volunteers were accompanied by his parents, who of course did not want to miss this adventure and share this emotional event with their son.
Álvaro’s goal for the future is a project to enable people with reduced mobility to enjoy the mountains and landscapes of the Axarquía region.
