Atletico had to suspend training after positive test for Giménez

Atletico Madrid confirmed that they had to suspend training yesterday after José María Giménez’s PCR test came back positive.

TRAINING was cancelled on Tuesday, September 22, as a precautionary measure following the news that the Atletico defender tested positive for the coronavirus.

PCR tests were carried out on some of the squad on Monday and after the results were released to the squad, Giménez was told the news.

He is now in isolation and posted a video to update fans and supporters of the club.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan told his Instagram followers, “I’m fine, I’m in good health, I just have the symptoms of taste and smell, but I’m perfectly fine.”

Giménez, who has been with the Madrid club since 2013, offered his thanks to fans and supporters and encouraged them to take care of their own health.

“To thank all the messages that they have sent me of support and encouragement, to tell them to take care of each other,” he said.

“I was one of those people who thought I was never going to catch him and now I am isolated, complying with the protocols to return stronger than ever, ” stated the heavily tattooed defender.

Atlético Madrid, who play Granada in their opening game of the LaLiga Santander on Sunday, September 27, will still be hopeful to add to their squad before their season begins.
