From the Nou Camp to Molineux: Semedo signs for £36.8million

Wolves have splashed out in the transfer market again bringing Nelson Semedo from the Nou Camp to Molineux in a £36.8million deal.

RIGHT-BACK Nelson Semedo has signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers from Barcelona in a deal worth nearly £37million.

In a deal that includes potential add-ons, the Portugal international has signed until June 2023, with an option to extend it to June 2025 and will be hoping to shore up a defence that conceded three goals against Manchester City on Monday 21.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be impressed that the Molineux club managed to land the 26-year-old, who featured 42 times for Barca last season.

The Wolves head coach had been in the market for a right-back following the sale of Matt Doherty to Spurs, with the Republic of Ireland international joining the London outfit on a four-year-deal.

Semedo becomes Wolves’ fifth signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Fabio Silva, Fernando Marcal, Vitor Ferreira and Ki-Jana Hoever.

Speaking to the club’s website, the latest arrival to the club said, “I chose Wolves because it’s a very good team that plays very good football.

“Last year they did a very good season and it’s a very important team in England, in also Europe. I hope this year we can do very good things.”

The club will be hoping that the defender, who won two La Liga titles and the Cope del Rey following his move to Barcelona from Benfica in 2017, will be able to make his debut in the Premier League against West Ham on Sunday.

“‘Progressive at heart’ is one of our core values at Wolves. For a member of staff, for a player, for the whole club, we are all making great efforts to progress continuously,” stated Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi.

“It’s isn’t often that we have the opportunity to sign a world-class player from a world-class club. Nelson’s signing shows we will never stop progressing and we are still hungry and humble in our heart.”
