HATCHED: Six loggerhead turtles from Cullera clutch Photo credit: GVA.es
SIX loggerhead turtles have hatched from a clutch of 85 eggs discovered on the Cullera (Valencia) beach. The nest, which was spotted by an angler, was transferred from the busy Cullera shore to the El Saler national park although the six new arrivals will be kept under observation at the Fundacion Oceanografic in Valencia City. The nest is guarded by volunteers from the Fundacion Xaloc who have spent the last 60 days near the eggs and will remain until all are hatched, the Generalitat’s Environment department revealed. Once they are viable, the turtles will be released into the Mediterranean.
