Pictoris c’s Existence Confirmed By New Photo Technique

Pictoris c’s existence confirmed by the use of a new photographic technique that makes it possible to see rather than measure.

Pictoris c, an exoplanet whose existence has only been confirmed by indirect methods up until now, has officially been confirmed by photograph.

The exoplanet, which is 63 light years away from Earth has had its existence confirmed with a radial velocity method, which makes it possible to photograph a planet that is in such close proximity to a star.

Normally, these planets are difficult to photography because the host star is so bright, and the planet is so close to the star.

Frank Eisenhauer, the instrument’s lead scientist at the Max Planck Institute said, “It’s amazing what level of detail and sensitivity we can achieve”
