Two year mask-wearing marathon expected by Spanish virologist

Two year mask-wearing marathon expected by Spanish virologist as the fight against Covid-19 could continue to run and run.

ACCORDING to Spanish virologist, Dr Margarita del Val, it could take a couple of years to get Covid-19 under control; with vaccines, treatments and preventives set to help the fight.

Dr Margarita del Val, the head of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) – Salud Global/Global Health told MarketWatch: “We will get over this in some years, but we don’t have to expect this is going to be a hundred-metre run.”

“It’s going to be a marathon.”

According to statistics, Spain has become the hardest-hit country in Europe, with more restrictions introduced on Friday in order to stop contagions.

The Spanish virologist made it clear that she thought the reason for the rise in numbers in was due to residents fighting against wearing masks and becoming complacent in following safety measures.

“I think when people were eating and drinking outside, which was taking one measure, open air, which is good, they were forgetting a second measure…either distance or masks,” Dr del Val said.

Interestingly, Dr del Val also commented on the importance of masks even with a potential vaccine.

Speaking after a recent deal with Johnson & Johnson was struck by the European Union, including Spain, for a single-dose vaccine to inoculate 200 million people, she said: “with the many holes in the potential coverage offered by a vaccine, those masks may remain a better tool for some time to come.”

These people just spout rubbish. Covid is no more dangerous than the flu. That´s completely clear from data around the world. Wearing masks makes people sick. If we didnt take these measures for the flu we dont need to take them now. We are causing more unnecessary harm to business, more unnecessary harm to people´s health and more unnecessary deaths because people are still not being treated for other conditions that really do kill people…….

Masks are not the answer – vaccines are. People touch their masks all the time, pull them, adjust them etc etc. Then their hands touch other things, spreading the virus. They also scrunch them up when they take them off. Inside, yes, outside, pointless.
