BORIS warns that Brexit negotiators must ‘bridge significant gaps’ in coming days

Lord Frost, the UK chief negotiator is currently in the midst of two weeks of intensive talks with his EU counterpart, Michel Barnier. Tory sources have revealed that French resident Emmanuel Macron may delay progress due to his stance on fishing quotas.

While the EU insists that the Common Fisheries Policy should be followed, meaning access and quotas remain the same, the UK are requesting that they be subject to annual negotiations, essentially allowing access to a much greater share.

Eager to reach a compromise, The UK have suggested a 3 year transition plan which would gradually reduce current fishing catches before the quotas are introduced.

Following a phone conversation between Boris and the French resident Saturday morning, a Downing Street spokesman told The Telegraph: “The Prime Minister emphasised that progress must be made in the coming days to bridge the significant gaps, notably in the areas of fisheries and the ‘level playing field’.”
