ROQUETAS: No current plans to re-name Avenida Juan Carlos I

ELEVEN Almeria province municipalities bear the name of Juan Carlos I on a street, avenue or promenade.
Juan Carlos abdicated in 2014 in favour of Spain’s present king, his son Felipe VI.
Since then his popularity has waned owing to embroilment in corruption and finance scandals, and the Compromis political party is campaigning to erase the former king’s name from Spain’s thoroughfares.
If successful this would affect Anta, Bayarque, Cantoria Cuevas del Almanzor and Turre, which have streets named after the former king.
Fines, Roquetas de Mar, Somontin, Taberno and Uleila del Campo have avenues, while El Ejido has a Paseo.
