Neo-Nazi has pleaded guilty in plot to bomb synagogue

A self-proclaimed neo-Nazi has pleaded guilty in a plot to bomb Temple Emanuel Synagogue in Pueblo, Colorado in 2019.

Richard Holzer, 28, said he didn’t intend to harm anyone, but would still have gone ahead with the plan even if people were inside the synagogue. Holzer pleaded guilty after his plan was foiled by under-cover FBI agents.

Holzer is set to face 20 years in prison after pleading guilty on Thursday to a federal hate crime charge and a charge of attempting to use explosives to destroy a building, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

After posting a wave of hate speech online, Holzer was approached by an FBI agent posing as a white supremacist in 2019. He obtained two pipe bombs and 14 sticks of dynamite from the undercover agents – the explosives were made by the FBI and were clever fakes. Holzer told the FBI that he was preparing for a “racial holy war.”

Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband said in a statement that the attack was intended to drive Jewish people from Pueblo, a city of 110,000 around 40 miles south of Colorado Springs.
