The Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham, has lashed out at the Prime Minister claiming he is ´exaggerating´ the severity of the cases in the city.
Whilst Michael Gove hit back saying the mayor was ´posturing´ and needs to accept the city will be moving into Tier Three.
Burnham is said to be refusing to move into Tier Three unless the government coughs up more financial support for the region.
He is also arguing that cases in the city are falling saying this morning, “figures have been falling in Manchester itself in the last few days”
This was backed up by expert analysis published by the Sunday Telegraph showing that cases in Manchester had indeed decreased for nine consecutive days.
Tension is growing between the mayor and the government, Mr Gove claimed that the Mayor was ´índulging´ in party politics and pleaded with the Labour mayor to back down.
Burnham denied the claims of ´playing politics´ and has asked for the arguments to stop but he has said that he would take legal action if the measures went ahead with his consent.
