Lorry driver 6 times over the limit

A lorry driver who overturned his truck was 6 times over the legal alcohol limit.

The accident occurred on the N-334 Almeria – Valencia road within the municipality of Yecla. Guardia Civil were called to the scene when it was reported that a lorry had overturned on the carriageway.

The driver of the vehicle is reported to be a 41-year-old Spanish national from Sante Fe in Granada. Emergency personnel at the scene quickly established that the man was under the influence, and a subsequent breath test revealed that he was six times over the legal alcohol limit for professional drivers.

Guardia arrested the driver and he will now face criminal charges and potentially lose his licence.

At the time of the accident, the man was driving a 40-ton lorry carrying 18 tonnes of animal feed, which spilled onto the road after he overturned the vehicle. The lorry driver himself is said to be only slightly injured.
