Artist Tracey Emin reveals she had bladder cancer

ARTIST Tracey Emin reveals she had bladder cancer and had an operation this summer to remove a cancerous tumour.

The 57-year-old artist best known for her unmade bed installation told Artnet that the cancer was now in remission after she was diagnosed in the spring.

“Yesterday, I was crying because I wanted to paint and I didn’t have the energy to do it,” she said.

Emin is one of Britain’s best-known and most celebrated artists, told Artnet that she had been working on a semi-abstract painting early in lockdown, and before she knew she had bladder cancer it had been “keeping her up at night”.

The 1999 Turner Prize nominee posted a video on Instagram in March stating she had not been in her studio because she had been unwell.

The creator of the “tent Everyone I Have Ever Slept With” has an exhibition of her work due to open in Brussels on Friday, October 30.

She will also have her recent paintings shown at the Royal Academy in London from November 15.
