Air Malta set to GUARANTEE flight operations ‘even with one person on board’

AIR Malta is set to GUARANTEE flight operations ‘even with one person on board’, according to Economy Minister Silvio Schembri.

The new scheme will see its winter schedule provide some peace of mind for customers after many have had their travel plans ruined by the Covid pandemic.

Speaking about the plan, as long as laws and restrictions permit, Schembri said: “This will ensure the operation of the network guaranteeing Air Malta flights no matter the situation on the ground.”

Even with an increase in cancellations the scheme will still make 50% of its flights available and according to Schembri, there will be flights to 21 destinations in the coming months, with some 156 flights per week operated.

Schembri said on his Twitter account: “To ensure peace of mind and reliability during these uncertain times, our national airline @AirMalta launched Business Guaranteed flight schedule. Covering 21 destinations with 156 flights a week, AirMalta will guarantee access to major hubs irrespective of any cancellations.”

Despite Schembri’s announcement, many have left the country and few are able to travel there since Malta has been added to many country’s quarantine lists after the first COVID-19 cases were detected in March and flights were banned.
