New airline to serve Gibraltar from Luton base

AS reports abound of UK based airlines cancelling flights and leaving holidaymakers disappointed, especially with Christmas around the corner, the UK arm of Hungarian Airline WIZZ Air has announced that it will introduce two flights a week from Luton to Gibraltar.

This is a no-frills airline which will operate on Mondays and Fridays starting on December 11 with ticket prices from £24.99 each way operating Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft with a capacity of around 180 passengers.

Unlike some airlines, WIZZ encourages passengers to add WIZZ Flex to their booking, so that passengers can cancel their flight up to three hours before departure without any fee and get 100 per cent of the original fare immediately reimbursed in airline credit, as well as change dates and even routes for added peace of mind during these uncertain times.

Gibraltar Minister responsible for Transport Vijay Daryanani commented, “I’m delighted to welcome a new airline to Gibraltar and to see the resumption of services from Luton for this winter.

In these challenging times it is encouraging to see an operator such as Wizz Air UK putting their faith in Gibraltar as a destination. The service will open up the North London catchment area once again, providing more options to our existing air services.”

Monarch flew from Luton to the Rock before it went bankrupt and easyJet also introduced flights from there but these were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
