Struggling mum praises local community heroes for doorstep food donations

A STRUGGLING mum-of-five was left in tears after a kind-hearted community hero left her a doorstep food donation, and praises local community heroes for stepping up when the government has abandoned them.

Emma Frost, from Chester, received a touching handwritten note from the unnamed donor along with the food drop saying it was ‘a gift from our family to yours’. After the family heard a knock on the door, her eldest child found two large bags of food shopping and five packed lunches for her kids, leaving Emma moved to tears at the kind act.

The mum said, ‘When she came in, she told me that someone had left the shopping with a note. When I read the note I teared up. I was shocked. It was totally unexpected.

A handwritten note read, ‘Hi Emma, I’m doing food drops in the community, and someone has put your name forward to receive one. ‘I’m also doing kids packed lunches Mon – Fri. If you don’t want to receive the kids lunches just send me a message… Otherwise, I’ll drop them between 10.30am and 12pm.

‘No need to come to the door, I will drop, knock and leave. A gift from our family to yours.’ Emma said the food will be an ‘amazing support’ to the family as they are currently self-isolating after her partner’s brother tested positive for coronavirus.

Thanking the stranger, the mother said, ‘On a day where I was struggling mentally, you brightened it up. It is very much appreciated and it shows there are still some people sharing their humanity around.’ Thousands of volunteers, hard-hit pubs, restaurants, cafes, charities and local councils stepped in to provide free meals to disadvantaged children over the October half-term break this week after the government abandoned them.
