Breaking News: Anti-Lockdown Protests Rage in Barcelona

Barcelona Riots

Riots have broken out in Barcelona as anti-lockdown protesters clashed with police.

A protest that was planned against the latest coronavirus restrictions in Catalonia soon descended into a full-scale riot on Friday night as protesters clashed with police officers.

According to the local police, at least 1,500 people gathered in front of the Catalan government headquarters in Plaça Sant Jaume. Many of the demonstrators are reportedly directly affected by the closure of businesses like bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and gyms.

It is understood that the protest had remained peaceful until some protesters threw metal fences at police officers, who then responded with their batons, with clashes quickly escalating.
