Phillip Schofield hopes his late father is ‘proud’ of him

PHILLIP Schofield has revealed how he hopes his late father would be proud of him for coming out as gay.

The TV personality, 58,  explained how he asked his mother Pat for her thoughts on how his late father Brian, who died in 2008 at the age of 72, would have reacted ahead of him discussing his sexuality on TV in February.

Chatting on Chris Evans How To Wow podcast, Phillip said he had been thinking about how both of his parents would react to the news ahead of going public.

Phillip explained, ‘When I went down to Cornwall when I told my mum, I said, “What do you think dad would have said? Would he still be proud?”

‘Thankfully she said, “Yes… he’ll think you’re brave and he will always be proud of you.” So that is good.’

He added, ‘What he would say now? Well, it’s a modern phrase, it’s a recent hashtag, but my dad was one of the kindest, sweetest, most lovely people ever.

‘So I think he would adopt the hashtag and he would just say, “Just make sure you’re kind”.’
