Last Remaining White Giraffe Tagged with GPS

THE world’s last remaining white giraffe has been tagged, with a GPS tracking device.

The giraffe is now the only remaining white giraffe, as in March poachers killed a mother and her calf. The white giraffe is rare due to leucism, which is the genetic cause for the rare colour. The giraffe stands out against the arid backdrop near the Somalian border and makes it an easier target for poachers.

The small GPS tracker has been attached to a horn on the giraffe and it will notify the rangers to the giraffe’s location.

It is hoped that with the giraffe being tagged with GPS, and the rangers easily able to locate it, there will be less issues with poachers.
