Seven Dead in Lanzarote Boat Capsize- Update

Seven Dead in Lanzarote Boat Capsize- Updated.

As reported late last night, November 24, a boat with about 35 migrants overturned when it was about to reach the port of Órzola, in Lanzarote, Spain’s Canary Islands. Not many could swim and around twenty locals threw themselves into the sea to help them in the agonizing situation. Emergency teams joined the rescue and one by one they manage to get 28 men to safety.

The death toll has sadly risen to seven from the three earlier known about. Survivors say women and children were also travelling on the boat but at the moment, nothing is known about them.

The boat sank close to the port of Órzola after crashing into a breakwater as it approached the last few meters to get to the shore. Up to now, as reported, 28 men have already been rescued from the water and a search, supported by a Maritime Rescue helicopter that illuminated the crash site from the air, is still underway.
