VLADIMIR Putin’s top nuke missile expert has been arrested for treason
Associate Professor Anatoly Gubanov, 63, one of Russia’s leading experts on hypersonic missiles, has been arrested on Moscow and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. He has been charged with high treason, accused of passing top secret information to the West.
“According to the investigation, Gubanov handed over secret aviation development data abroad,” said a law enforcement source.
Gubanov, an expert on supersonic solid rocket engines, has worked with other scientists from the UK, Australia, Germany, France and Italy in the past. Now, Russian officials believe he has “violated” the contract he signed vowing not to divulge sensitive information to foreign powers, according to Kommersant newspaper.
The professor is suspected of passing “information consisting of state secrets abroad” or committing “other acts aimed against the security of Russia in the interests of a foreign state, organisation or representatives,” says Interfax.
A closed-door court inside Lefortovo jail ordered Gubanov to be held in detention until February.
