Italy sees increase in daily new infections

Italy has seen an increase in daily new infections with 18,236 recorded in the last 24 hours – up 664 on yesterday’s 17,572.

THE country has also seen 683 coronavirus-related deaths since yesterday, Wednesday, December 16, when 680 were registered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 1.9 million infections and 67,220 fatalities.

At the weekend, it was announced Italy is reporting the most coronavirus deaths in Europe.

The government is being accused of not being able to combat the second wave of the virus and heavily criticised for the delay in imposing new restrictions.
