A MAN was tragically shot dead at a Peaky Blinders themed fancy dress party on New Year’s Eve in what police are describing as a fatal accident.

Thomas Bernabe, a 27-year old communications manager, was enjoying a New Year’s Eve party in the Dordogne region of France where the hit BBC period crime drama “Peaky Blinders” was the fancy dress theme.

While having a cigarette in the garage of the house with other revelers, another 27-year old reportedly shot him in the chest with a rifle he’d brought as a prop. Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 9:30 PM, where Bernabe was pronounced dead.

The man who fired the loaded rifle was reportedly unaware the weapon was loaded and has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. If convicted he could face five years in prison for his tragic and fatal mistake.

“About 20 people born between 1991 and 1993, all former high school friends, gathered Thursday in an isolated house for a fancy dress party inspired by this British television series, which features gangsters in three-piece costumes and caps,” prosecutor Odile de Fritsch told local media.

Peaky Blinders, featuring Irish star Cillian Murphy, is a hugely popular BBC crime drama set in early 20th century Birmingham that has enjoyed massive success in the UK and overseas.
