RESIDENTS of a four-storey apartment block in Llucmajor had a rude awakening this morning (January 5) when a fire broke out in a flat on the top floor in which two people were sleeping.
Alerted to the blaze, all residents were able to make a safe evacuation although one person was reportedly treated for smoke inhalation on the spot.
Fire fighters from the Palma and Mallorca brigades arrived quickly and with the street cordoned off by Local Police the fire which apparently broke out in an empty room was soon extinguished with no significant damage to the building.
After ventilating the apartment, officers are now investigating the cause of the fire which may be due to faulty wiring.
