SPORTS fans in Axarquia are in luck after it was announced Rincon de la Victoria will be one of the stages of La Vuelta.


The news that La Vuelta will stop in Rincon de la Victoria means the town could be seen by the 1.5 million viewers who follow the event around the world.
The town’s mayor, Fransisco Salado, said: “It will reinforce the area as a tourist destination in the future, when the pandemic allows us to.”
He added: “I hope that La Vuelta is an opportunity for Spaniards or foreigners who follow it on television to dream from home of visiting our land.
“Linking a high competition event to our municipality of Rincon de la Victoria has a great media impact, and therefore a showcase to attract tourists.”
Councillor for Sports and Tourism, Antonio Jose Martin, said he was happy, “to host this important competitive event that fans, visitors and residents will be able to enjoy. In addition, it represents an important national and international tourist attraction.”
Rincon de la Victoria will be a stop on La Vuelta on August 24 during stage 10 which will start from Roquetas de Mar, Almeria.
The seventy-sixth edition of La Vuelta will begin on August 14 in the city Burgos, in the north of Spain, outside the Cathedral, and will end on September 5, consisting of a total of 21 stages.
La Vuelta was first organised in 1935 and is held annually in Spain inspired by cycling tournaments in other European countries.
