UK set to be hotter than Barcelona this weekend as the big freeze thaws

The UK is set to enjoy Mediterranean-like weather this weather as the mercury could climb as high as 17C according to the latest forecast from the Met Office. This is welcome news as Storm Darcy brought an Arctic blast which saw much of the country blanketed in snow and blasted with icy winds for days. In fact, some parts of the UK will even be hotter than Barcelona, which is set to reach a maximum temperature of 16C on Sunday, February 21, which is “way above average for this time of year.”

The UK will see a “warmer air mass, with daytime temperatures reaching 11-12C in the south, replacing days which never got above freezing the week before,” predicts chief meteorologist of the Met Office, Neil Armstrong.

Before the thermometer-topping 17C expected on Sunday, however, Mr Armstrong has warned that there are still a few days of wintry hazards to get through, with strong gusts and snow expected in many areas.

BBC Weather’s Chris Fawkes added: “We’re starting to draw up more of a southerly flow of wind and that will start to drag up some of the warmer air from north Africa and Spain, which will push across westerly Europe and across parts of the United Kingdom.”
