Conor McGregor: UFC Star in the Money as Tequila Company Takes Over His Whiskey Brand.
UFC’S Conor McGregor looks set for a huge payout after his whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve was the subject of takeover talks from Mexican tequila company Becle – who own Jose Cuervo Tequila.
The takeover of the brand the superstar helped create has been rumoured since last week, however, further details have emerged with Becle reportedly taking full control of the company – having already bought a 20 per cent share of the brand initially before upping their stake to 49 per cent last year.
This investment and potential takeover of Conor McGregor’s whiskey brand is set to give the 32-year-old Irishman and his manager Audie Attar, under parent company Eire Born Spirits, a split of £112m (€130 million) – if Becle’s intentions of acquiring the remaining 51 per cent of the company, which would give them total control, takes place.
The huge payout will help ease the UFC fighter’s pain after he suffered a shock defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 in his comeback fight in January.
If the deal goes through, Becle will have control of a very popular whiskey brand as the Proper No. Twelve drink, which was named after McGregor’s hometown Crumlin situated in Dublin 12, has been selling extremely well since its launch in 2018.
