TOP-LEVEL: First in-person meeting for tourism entrepreneurs Photo credit: Hosbec
COSTA BLANCA hoteliers and tourist accommodation association Hosbec has joined the #Elturismoeslavacuna (Tourism is the vaccine) campaign. They and other Valencian Community tourism professionals recently met in-person in Benidorm for the first time. Numbers, limited to 30 people, included Francesc Colomer, the Generalitat’s regional Tourism secretary, as well as the president of the Diputacion provincial council, Carlos Mazon, Hosbec president Toni Mayor and Benidorm mayor Toni Perez. Hundreds of other tourism entrepreneurs joined the event via the Generalitat’s GVA channel to defend the sector’s importance to Spain’s economic and social system. It was impossible, they agreed, for any other productive sector to substitute it long- or short-term, hence the concept that tourism was a vaccine promising a return to normality. “A year ago we predicted the devastating effect that the virus would have on our sector and today we can see that we weren’t mistaken,” Toni Mayor declared. Mayor and his fellow hoteliers coincided in lamenting the European Union’s “inefficient” handling of the anti-Covid vaccine which was delaying the return to normality by three or four months. “Nevertheless, the scenario is very positive,” Mayor said. “Our climate, the return to outdoor life, increased immunity and the vaccine will combine to herald the coming of spring after the long winter of the pandemic.” The Hosbec president saw July “at the very latest and in the worst case” as the starting point for a return to normality. “And there will be no looking back,” he predicted.
