BREAKING NEWS: Ben White chosen for England Euro 2020 squad as Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Ben White chosen for England Euro 2020 squad as Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement.

Ben White has been selected as the replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in England’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2020, according to the Independent.

Manager Gareth Southgate was able to bolster his ranks after Alexander-Arnold suffered a thigh injury in Wednesday’s 1-0 friendly victory over Austria.

It seemed the vacant spot would go to one of White, James Ward-Prowse or Jesse Lingard — all of whom impressed against Austria and in the 1-0 defeat of Romania on Sunday — and Southgate has decided to reward Brighton defender White, with the FA confirming the news on Monday morning, June 7.

The 23-year-old showed quality and versatility in the warm-up games, while the ongoing uncertainty over Harry Maguire’s fitness could make extra cover in central defence all the more important.

The Brighton and Hove Albion defender offers extra depth at center-back to Gareth Southgate, who is still sweating on the fitness of Harry Maguire for the forthcoming group stages. White was left out of the initial squad having only just received his first international call-up and made his debut as a substitute in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Austria.
