The beaches of Nerja are set to experience a beach clean-up which will take place today Monday, June 7, in a bid to raise awareness about the environment and problems associated with discarding waste into the natural world.
The Spanish town of Nerja are set to join in the commemoration event for World Environment Day, which falls on June 5. The town hopes to raise awareness and highlight the importance of keeping beaches clean in a bid to protect the ecosystem.
Javier Rodríguez, the councillor for the Environment has spoken of the environmental initiative and commented that: “with this initiative, part of the ALDEA and FormaJoven programme of the Junta de Andalucía, which has the collaboration of the Nerja Town Hall, through the delegations of Environment, Education and Beaches, the students of the 1st year of ESO (Secondary Education) will be able to learn about the importance of keeping the environment clean, the students of 1st of ESO of the IES El Chaparil will make an outing to the beaches El Chucho and El Playazo where they will carry out an informative talk about the damage caused by waste that ends up in natural spaces, and they will clean up any type of waste that the current and human activity may have left on the sand. ”
He also went on to comment on climate change and commented that: “With this type of environmental awareness and education actions we intend to convey to our young people the importance of caring for the environment and the fight against climate change, also encouraging the recycling of waste, especially plastics, which are the most polluting effects on our environment.”
