THE Guardia Civil has dismantled an organisation in Malaga dedicated to the transport of cocaine and money from Portugal and Spain. The operation known as ‘Machango’ adds 11 detainees of both nationalities and another eight investigated persons who performed functions of frontmen for crimes against public health, belonging to a criminal organisation and money laundering. The officer’s actions have resulted in the seizure of nine kilos of cocaine and almost €1,000 in cash. As reported by La Opinion de Malaga, the investigation began last year when Guardia Civil officers learned of the existence of a criminal organisation based on the Costa del Sol that was engaged in transporting cocaine from Portugal in high-end vehicles, the Guardia Civil Command reported today. The investigations allowed investigators to verify that the network had a high economic level that allowed them to acquire high-powered vehicles in which they had built sophisticated false levels in the transportation to hide the cocaine and the money they had to buy said narcotics and prevent them from being detected in the controls and inspections that could be carried out during the journeys. During this operation, carried out in the provinces of Malaga, Huelva and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, seven high-end passenger cars have been seized and nine kilos of cocaine and €944,915 in cash have been seized in the different actions carried out by the authorities involved. The operation has been developed jointly by officers of the Malaga Guardia Civil Command and OCON-SUR, with the support of the Rapid Action Group (GAR).
