La Noria promotes social innovation in agriculture through a free online course. THE social innovation centre La Noria is offering a new online course as part of the training programme for the School of Social Impact’s 2021 edition, focused on social innovation in agriculture. The free training will take place on June 29 and 30 via the Zoom digital platform. Individuals interested in attending should register now at www.malaga.es/lanoria. The course’s objective is to familiarise participants with fundamental concepts relating to the application of social innovation in agriculture, to foster an active attitude toward current social and environmental challenges, and to showcase some of the current experiences being conducted in various parts of Europe. Natacha Rivas, the Diputación de Malaga’s fourth vice-president and deputy for Social Innovation, recalled “that social innovation is a subject that can be applied transversally in different sectors; its application in agriculture is an example of how social transformation and improvement are possible when different sectors collaborate on social innovation.” Rivas also pointed out the importance of “promoting a transition to food and agricultural systems that respect the environment and promote the economic and social development of the province of Malaga.” The founder of the social organisation Crea Huertas, Elena Martín, explained that “innovation in agriculture is not only the application of technology or genetic innovation, it is also necessary to apply social innovation for the sustainability of our land.” The introductory level course is aimed at people working in the agricultural sector, such as organic farmers or young livestock farmers, as well as people related to it in fields such as administration or university.
