GRANADA man arrested by the National Police for alleged gender violence, during which he tried to blow up the home he shared with his victim, using butane gas

National Police officers in Granada arrested a 42-year-old man on Wednesday, August 4, accused of an alleged crime of gender violence, after he was denounced by his partner, with the same individual accused of attempting to blow up the home they shared by causing a butane gas leak.

In a statement, police revealed the incident occurred in an apartment located on the second floor of a block in the Zaidin neighbourhood of Granada last Wednesday afternoon, when the detainee arrived home and started a heavy discussion with his partner, during which she accused him of insulting and threatening her, while displaying aggressive behaviour, during which he broke the television, and two mobile phones belonging to the victim, before leaving the property, reported the statement.

Shortly after being called, a patrol from the National Police arrived at the home, and took the woman to the police station where she filed a complaint of mistreatment against the man.

Some hours later, a call to 091 reported a strong smell of gas inside the same apartment block the officers had visited earlier that afternoon, and on arrival, were informed by residents that the gas smell was coming from the second floor, and after calling for the assistance of the fire brigade, the officers went to investigate the source of the gas smell.

They reportedly encountered an individual in the staircase who was the possible inhabitant of the apartment with the gas leak, so using his door keys they entered and were instantly confronted by a high concentration of gas, and could hear a hissing sound, which indicated a large gas leak.

Firefighters were soon on the scene, ventilating the apartment, and neutraliseing the leak, which was found to have been caused by two butane gas bottles having their pipes deliberately cut, at which point, the resident of the apartment was arrested and taken into custody, where this Friday morning, August 6, he was placed at the disposal of a judge for sentencing, as reported by diariodealmeria.es.
