Ten years dedicated to protecting huercalenses for the Civil Protection Group of Huercal de Almeria.

The Civil protection group enjoyed celebrating its 10th anniversary on Saturday, August 7. Several of the group members were presented with awards to mark their five and 10-year service. A posthumous recognition was also given to Paco Colomer Santander, who had been a precursor to the protection group.

The celebrations took place at the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall of Huercal de Almeria where speeches were given by councillor Manu Abad, acting mayor; the head of the group in Huercal de Almeria, Joaquin Fernandez; and head of the Local Police, Diego Muñoz, who will be leaving the force soon.  

Acting mayor Manu Abad thanked the Civil Protection Group for their hard work over the space of many years, and for: “carrying out their duty as volunteers and working closely with the City Council, Local Police, citizens or more recently with the health services, so we cannot be more proud.”

As reported La Voz de Almeria, “During the ceremony, the medal for their ten years of service in the group was awarded to Jose Juan Martínez Guil, Jose Francisco Gomez Fernandez and Josefina Corral Guerrero, as well as to Paco Colomer Santander, awarded posthumously. Francisco Juan Ledesma Soler, Jose Juan Garcia Calvo, Juan Jose Ruiz Garcia and Encarnacion Salazar Torres were also decorated for five years of Civil Protection service.”

So far this year the group have performed over 200 different actions and the group has 32 members who provide services to both Huercal de Almeria and to Benahadux too.
