“We are afraid, the cracks are getting bigger and nobody is doing anything”. Homes in Madrid’s San Fernando are suffering from the Metro line number 7.
Residents of San Fernando de Henares in Madrid have sadly been suffering for many years and have denounced the damage that the works on Line 7B of the Madrid Metro have caused their homes in the area. Local residents feel that they do nothing but have repairs carried out. Locals feels the situation is “not improving” and that the repair work carried out is basically just patching up the problem.
The Metro line was built around 13 years ago and about 350 homes have been suffering since. Speaking to 20 minutes, one resident explained that he feels frustrated as he can see cracks constantly appearing despite the reform work that has been carried out.
“They evicted us to repair the cracks but they have done nothing, they painted the walls and a month later the cracks appear again”, said Alejandro.
Another local who runs a dance Academy has explained how locals are scared as the cracks just seem to grow and nobody does anything about it. “We are afraid, because the cracks are getting bigger and it’s devastating because nobody is doing anything”, said the dance Academy owner. She also fears that her house could fall down.
According to 20 minutes, “There are neighbours who have abandoned their homes and those who remain are afraid that one day their house will fall down on them.”
One affected resident spoke of how he actually listens to the walls creak during the night. “We panic. At night, we fall asleep listening to the creaking of the walls. The feeling is one of total anguish, you think the building is going to fall down with us in it. We have invested all our savings in this house? They have ruined our lives”, said Javier.
Future work is expected to be carried out to fix problems in the resident’s homes but at the moment residents are definitely not happy.
