Covid deaths increase and two more people are admitted to the ICU in Spain’s Almeria.

Spain has been hit by the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic and the consequences are being felt in Almeria. According to data from the Junta de Andalucia on Wednesday, August 11, a slight drop in the number of infected people was seen, but Almeria is in mourning as more people have died from Covid. Hospitals in the area have seen the number of admissions continue to rise and more people have headed to the ICU for treatment.

The vaccination programme in Spain is progressing well but in only the last 24 hours Almeria province has seen 229 new cases of the virus reported. This is a drop from yesterday though as on Tuesday over 300 cases were reported.  This could lead people to be encouraged but the optimism felt quickly drains away when other figures are considered.

Over the last 24 hours in Almeria sadly three people have died from Covid. Hospitals in the province have also seen five more people admitted to hospital. Two people have also required ICU beds in Almeria.

Looking on the bright side though 162 people have recovered from the potentially deadly virus.

Looking at the figures for Andalucia,as reported La Voz de Almeria, “On Wednesday 11 August, Andalucia recorded a total of 3,059 cases of coronavirus, down from 3,655 on the same day last week, according to data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), which recorded 24 deaths, a high figure but lower than that of Tuesday (28), which is the worst figure in quite some time, specifically since 11 May (54).”
