Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares has received a manifesto on the situation of Afghan women from Soledad Gallego-Diaz, the former director of El Pais, and Gabriela Canas, president of the EFE news agency.

The document, entitled “Open the doors to Afghanistan and Afghans”, has collected more than 120,000 signatures so far.

The manifesto contains an appeal to the international community with three essential points: to demand that the Afghan authorities keep the borders open; demand that the international community make an effort to accept the repatriation flights and welcome the refugees they transport; and that preferential attention be paid to women, especially those at risk.

The Minister highlighted the role of Spain in promoting the rights of Afghan women and girls, both for those who have left the country in the evacuation operation, and for those who will remain in the country.

The event was attended by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Angeles Moreno; the Director of the AECID, Anton Leis;  UNHCR Representative in Spain, Sophie Muller; the General Coordinator of the Red Cross, Antonio Bruel; as well as representatives of the signatories.
